We will be running a new Beginners Sampler quilt course on Tuesday evenings
 ( 7.00 - 9.30)  fortnightly, beginning Tuesday 31st January. Please contact the shop if you are interested in joining this group. Number are limited.

                                                 Workshop Programme

All workshops are from 10 till 4 unless otherwise stated

We have a limit of 12 students per workshop, so you can be assured of personal tuition during the day


Workshop fees must be paid in advance.


If you cancel a workshop the fee is not refundable unless we can rebook the place. If we have to cancel a workshop all fees will be refunded.

 

Tea and Coffee is available all day, just help yourself!


Tuesday 10th & 24th Jan & 7th & 21st Feb - BeginnersSampler with Helen Spence- Covering several different patchwork techniques with Helen, this workshop can be done by hand or machine (or both) and you will finish  with a lovely sample that can be sized from a  lap to bed quilt. Four days £80 - A £30 deposit will secure your place with the balance to be paid by the start of the course



Friday 13th January – Mountains of the Moon – Helen Spence – Another of Helens own design in an Art Deco style. Lovely! £25

 

Saturday 14th January – Curves in all theRight Places! – Anja Townrow – Anja’s unique style of Curved Piecing using just a few templates with a choice of 5 designs, plus borders and optional appliqué. We will be stitching with a variety of threads & Anja will show how to add quilting and embroidery to your quilt without getting into a mess.  £30



Tuesday 17th January - Deco Flowers - Helen Spence - Another of Helen's own designs making a fabulous hanging. Can be made into a panel for a cushion or bag too, or maybe extend the design into a bed runner. Cost £25


Friday 20th January (two days) - Storm at Sea - Jan Shepherd - Come and make Jan's lovely version of this design. Second date -Friday 10th February. £50


Saturday 28th January Machine Quilting for the Quivering - Helen Coverley – We are delighted to have Helen come to teach at Poppy Patch. She will show you how to complete your quilt tops using free motion machine quilting. It’s much easier than you think!! £25

Tuesday 31st January – Wave Bag or Cushion – Helen Spence – A really pretty design using folds and twists to make a lovely messenger style bag or a cushion £25

Tuesday 14th February -Art Deco Hanging - Helen Spence - Designed by Helen to exhibit at 78 Derngate. This is a stunning hanging. Cost £25

Friday 24th February - Introduction to Foundation Piecing - Jan Shepherd - Come along to Jan's workshop and see just how easy it is to create the sharpest points using this method. £25

Tuesday 28th February - New Slant on Cathedral Window - HelenSpence Helen has put a new look to a traditional design to create this striking quilt, or you could use the blocks to make a bag, cushion, or wall hanging. Cost £25

                            

Friday 2nd March - (three days) Friday 16th March & Friday 13th April - Seminole Quilt - Jan Shepherd-  Learn several types of Seminole work to create your own unique quilt.£60


     

Tuesday 20th March (1/2 day) - Free Motion Quilting – Helen Spence - Practice the simple techniques of machine quilting with Helen's guidance and make machine quilting fun! You will be ready to tackle your quilts in no time!! £12.50 

Friday 23rd March - Trapunto - Philipa Naylor
Learn how easy and versatile machine trapunto can be, 
using regular straight stitch and free-motion techniques. A fabulous way of adding sculptural dimension to your work. Students will produce a trapunto sample quilt using the techniques Philippa employs in her own work. £30

Tuesday 27th March – Dahlia Bag – Helen Spence – Make a pretty little bag decorated with a dimensional flower. £25

Thursday 29th March – Jelly Roll Quilt – Helen Coverley - Got a Jelly Roll gathering dust on your shelf? They may look pretty but would look even better made into a fabulous quilt. Helen will help you make a stunning top from your fabric strips.  £25

Saturday 31st March – House Blocks with Attitude – Katharine Guerrier -Liberated piecing techniques are applied to house blocks to give your quilts that contemporary look. This is an improvisational way of working without templates and no two house blocks turn out the same.You will learn a variety of piecing techniques including how to fit all these separate pieces together into an effective and individual quilt. I deal for using up your scraps. £30

Tuesday 3rd April - Psychedelic Windows - Helen Spence - Using a woven method to crete this design and 3D butterflies for added bonus £25

Tuesday 17th April -Drunkards Path with Skinny Piping - Helen Spence - A spectacular quilt WITH NO CURVED SEAMS!!  and add piping for that extra sparkle. £25

Saturday 21st April – Woven Basket – Shirley Bloomfield -Learn how to create a woven basket using fabric strips made with bias bars. The basket is appliquéd onto the background and then can be filled with your own flower arrangement. Suitable for all levels although some knowledge of hand appliqué is useful. £30

Tuesday 24th April - Cathedral Window Cushion - Helen Spence - Using a traditional pattern, Helen will show you how to elongate the block to finish of this delightful cushion. £25

Saturday 12th May - Scrappy Zappy Do- Jennie Rayment -Scrabble in your fabric stash and fish out oddments of material! A most excellent way to combine a series of coloured scraps or memorable materials into an attractive hanging/table runner/small quilt. Design from Jennie’s latest book ‘Foldy Rolly Patchwork Pzzazz’. £30

Thursday 17th May -Auspicious Symbols - Pat Archibald - Using the format of a long, narrow Chinese scroll we will create a montage of a city skyline using Bondaweb and then stitch your choice of auspicious symbol high in the sky. We’ll also include some metallic foiling to simulate reflections in the high rise buildings. £30

 


Sunday 20th May - Ghost Images of the Orient – Pat Archibald
Learn in easy stages how to create a translucent image of a Chinese junk sailing away into the setting sun using layers of nets and sheers and foils. Kits are supplied for this class. £30 (plus the cost of the kit)



Tuesday 22nd May - Baptistery Window - Helen Spence - A stunning new quilt from Helen based on the Baptistery Window at Coventry Cathedral. A real scrap busting quilt!. £25



Thursday 31st May – Bag Day – Helen Coverley – Using one of Helens designs have a relaxing day making a bag. £25

Friday 15th June & Friday 20th July  - Christmas Cloth - Jan Shepherd - A lovely piece that Jan has made into a tablecloth for the Festive period, but could easily dress your bed. ££50 ( can be paid by instalments) Photo to follow 

Tuesday 19th June - Broken Tiles - Helen Spence - Using a selection of fat 1/4's make this lively "stained glass" style quilt. £25

Tuesday 10th July - 1/2 day (10 - 1)  - Free Motion Quilting - Helen Spence - Come along and practice techniques with Helen's guidance making machine quilting fun! You will be ready to tackle your quilts in no time. £12.50

Saturday 14th July – Mix & Mash Mini – KatharineGuerrier - Learn a number of different techniques in a day and make a mini 'Art Quilt' to give these techniques a showcase. Because they are quick to make and economical on fabric you can afford to be more adventurous with colour and the way you combine the different elements.You will gain confidence in handling colour and combining geometric shapes. In addition it's fun, experimental and will give you ideas to incorporate into larger pieces of work. £30
